Where are my God made millionaires?
As I sat in church, I heard the preacher say….”where are my God made millionaires ”. I looked around and many people were shouting in excitement. At the time I was relatively new to Jesus, but something didn’t seem quite right. Something was out of place. It seemed fantastic that God might be able to get me all the riches and materials things that I could ever want, and all I have to do was believe and he would surely make me rich From a new Christians perspective the Pastor was doing well, His father was rich, and on TBN every week. They hosted ministers to come speak and talk about the blessings of the lord and how they had corvettes and mansions and private jets and all you had to do was believe. This faith thing sounded pretty good, but something was still missing. So new to this Jesus Christ thing, I thought I would read the word on the subject. So I went to :
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
Then I went to:
1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
So what did Jesus Say:
Luke 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Luke 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Luke 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
What did James say:
James 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
James 5:2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
James 5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
Hmmm…. All these scriptures and many others it makes me wonder why anybody in a Christian church would focus on getting rich through God. It is certain that God and his the Apostles were against focusing on any material wealth. This word faith phenomenon caught on during the easy credit days when we had the internet and real estate boom. During this time we saw mega ministries appear along with massive church buildings. Now much of that prosperity dynasty is unwinding, with the word faithful loosing homes and cars along with everybody else. I am saddened that the enemy sucked so many in to this deception and now I fear the Christian church has been spiritually damaged to a point were most can’t discern good and evil.
I find my encouragement when pastors in countries like India and Pakistan, fight for the cause of Christ. Many living in make shift huts consider themselves blessed. Daily they face persecution and death to preach in a land where their Christian faith is a low percentage of the population. As many preach that the Christians who are rich have the faith, I say it is the poor who love Jesus
