There is a battle going on! Are you aware of it? Do the thoughts you think line up with the Word of God? Are you intentionally casting down every thought that opposes the will of God? Are you utilizing the weapons God has given you for this battle? Second Corinthians 10:3-5 says “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
The battle in our mind is ongoing. The enemy knows that if he can get our mind, he can entangle us in some way. He can destroy us. That’s why it is so important to read and study the Word of God. It’s our sword that pierces every vain word of the enemy. We have to be grounded and rooted in the Word.
The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy and he will try to get an opening anyway that he can. He may start by whispering little lies, because our actions are first conceived as thoughts. A thought will come to mind but do we initially weigh it to see if it’s true or not? Sometimes our thoughts may seem harmless but if they contradict the Word of God, they could lead us into captivity because anything that doesn’t align with God’s Word is outside of His will.
Be mindful of the things you think! Don’t come into agreement with every single thing that comes to mind. Learn how to “cast down strongholds.” A stronghold can be defined as “a place where a particular cause of belief is strongly defended or upheld; well-fortified place; fortress.” A stronghold can be your way of thinking or something known as a worldview. It can even be fear, worry, etc.
Here are some keys to help you overcome the battle in your mind:
- Make sure you are reading the Word and studying it DAILY! Set aside time to spend with God. That’s the most valuable time you’ll ever have.
- Do not come into agreement with anything that contradicts God’s Word. Ask yourself if what you think is what God says in His Word. Cast down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
- Guard your heart! Be careful of the thoughts you conceive that can sow seeds of bitterness into your heart. Make sure you are constantly thinking on things that true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8).
- Speak the Word. Declare the Word of God over your life. It is your weapon to use against the attacks of the enemy. You have the power and authority as a believer to use the Word against the enemy! Make sure you are using it.
The battle is won but you have to continue to use your weapons in this battle. The enemy is not going to relent, so you have to continue in the strength of God to overcome this battle. God sent Jesus so that you can have an abundant life. You can’t forfeit it because of the lies of the enemy. You have the Word of God that will sustain you. Use it consistently!
