False Prophecy

False Prophecy

Several years ago I was at a prophetic conference.  I was invited by a friend and had never attend a conference of this sort before.  I had just started my church and was trying to met other people that were ministers and had churches.    During the service, I noticed that the style of worship was a little different, but I thought that maybe it was just the culture or tradition.  At the end of the service.  The prophet that was having the service asked that all the pastors that were in attendance to come to the front.  In there were about 12 or 13 pastors at the front of the stage.  He told the crowd that he didn’t have time to prophesy to all of them, but there was one that God had a word for.  He told me that God had a word for my church.  I was skeptical when he began to talk, but I listened to see what he was going to say.   He told the attendees that my church had a family in it that was causing it not to grow.  He said that this family was a cancer to the church.   He told me that if I removed the family out the church that it would experience phenomenal growth.  Immediately when he spoke, I knew that he was lying.   It was comical and frustrating at the same time.  I thought to myself, how foolish he sounded.  The reason I was so sure that he was lying, is because their were no members at the church.  I asked God why would Satan say such a lie to me that I knew was false.  God said that it wasn’t for me, it was for the other people in attendance.

When false prophets lie it is to bring confusion, false hope, despair, etc.  With all the pastors in the church trying to build their churches, this false prophet was trying to bring them into a snare.  This snare was to get the pastors to submit themselves to this prophet and his lies.  Be certain that God despises false prophets.  When someone speaks for God and he has not said it, they are lying on God.

In  Jeremiah 23:32, God says, ” Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”

People can give false prophecies from two sources.  They can say things according to what is in their own mind or they can get words from demons.  Either way is bad, but getting words from demons connects a person to spirits of divination.  Divination is the demonic ability to see into the future.  It is pure evil.

God is serious about people attaching his word to lies.  When prophets do this it brings destruction to their lives and the lives of the people that follow them.  Satan loves to discredit God and false prophecies is one way that he loves to do it.

To keep yourself guarded from the lies of false prophets, it is best to know those who are prophesying to you.  When you receive prophesies you believe are from God, pray about them.  God will confirm his word in different ways that will give you peace about what God is speaking over your life.
